To reduce plastic pollution caused by the heavy use of plastic bottles at tourist spots, the Nilgiris district administration has partnered with Bisleri International Private Limited. This important initiative aims to protect the beautiful hills, forests, and wildlife of the Nilgiris by promoting responsible waste management and eco-friendly practices.
Every year, thousands of tourists visit popular places in the Nilgiris, which leads to a large increase in plastic waste, especially from single-use water bottles. To tackle this growing problem, the district administration and Bisleri have launched
a special program to collect, recycle, and responsibly manage plastic waste. Under this project, collection points will be set up at major tourist locations, and awareness campaigns will be organized to educate visitors about the importance of reducing plastic use.
Officials said the initiative will also encourage tourists to carry reusable bottles, use refill stations, and avoid littering. Recycling units will ensure that collected plastic bottles are properly processed and reused, helping reduce harm to the environment. This project is expected to significantly lower plastic pollution and help preserve the natural beauty of the Nilgiris for future generations.
